Astrenor Lore

The story of our adventurers takes place in a medieval universe imbued with magic, named Astrenor. Sciences and technologies are beginning to emerge and intertwine with magic, gradually revolutionizing the daily lives of its inhabitants. Originally, Astrenor was populated by four distinct species: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs. Today, these different peoples live in precarious harmony within more or less cosmopolitan societies, where intermingling is very common. These new nations, with constantly redefining borders, are spread across three vast continents: Rautha, Asgure, and Tolan.

Rautha is a continent of varied landscapes, with rich flora and fauna and vast arable lands. Long embroiled in war, the nations of Rautha are now unified thanks to the alliance of the Three Kingdoms, which was formed to face the threat from Asgure.

This continent comprises the Republic of Rautha, the Kingdom of Humans, Irdian, the Kingdom of Elves, Epheria, the Kingdom of Dwarves, Drukh, and the Duchy of Velugian, a territory militarily occupied by allied forces.

The Republic of Rautha is the nerve center of the continent. It is governed by President Panorius, a good and learned man who has gained the sympathy of the inhabitants through his economic policies that have enabled the technological and scientific development of part of the continent.

Asgure is a mostly desert and rocky territory where crops struggle to grow. The inhabitants primarily live off fishing and mining coal and iron. With very limited resources, the troops of Asgure have been trying for years to gain a foothold on the continent of Rautha, but with little success. Since the last defeat against the allied forces of Rautha, most of Asgure’s inhabitants live in great poverty while a small minority benefits from the continent's scarce resources.

This continent is composed of the Empire of Korimdor, the Theocracy of Elrig, designated as the holy land of the fire cult, Quaz, an extremely poor zone where anarchy reigns, and Dezolation, a former battlefield now used as a training ground for Asgure’s warriors.

Hankala, capital of the Empire of Korimdor

The Empire of Korimdor is the greatest power in Asgure. It is ruled by Lord and Emperor Kerozen, a bloodthirsty elf respected by his followers and feared by his enemies. This leader is also the winner of the last Tournament of Kings: an event that takes place every ten years in which all contenders for the throne of Asgure compete.

Tolan is a sacred land protected by a magical force field that it is strictly forbidden to approach. This island is said to be ruled by one Xeenox, who is rumored to be a descendant of an ancient draconic deity. The mere mention of his name is enough to terrify the greatest monarchs of this world.

Regarding the geopolitical aspect, Rautha and Asgure maintain very conflicting relations, as their ideologies and ways of life are in stark contrast. Their territories and inhabitants are marked by centuries of conflict, whether visible on the battlefields of Dezolation or invisible in the deep-seated resentment that animates these peoples.

On the other side of the ocean, Tolan, benefiting from its sacred aura, seems to prosper in the shadows, if the rumors circulating from tavern to tavern are to be believed.

Though tensions between Rautha and Asgure appear to have calmed, the threat of a new war seems to loom over Astrenor.

Word of advice. No one cares about your lore. If you want people to care incorporate the lore into optional puzzles. Reward players for knowing the lore; don't punish them for now knowing it. The idea about cheating on the test could be interesting, but the options are cheat or don't cheat. I am sorry but I don't think the quest design is that interesting.

This is exactly the case with the campaign. However, you need to know a bit about the history of the universe to understand the events of the campaign. That's why I thought it would be interesting to include a short quiz in the introductory scenario. Especially since I've taken care to develop the lore gradually in each scenario, so as not to overwhelm new players with lot of information.

A quiz is a bad way of going about it. Have a necklace that needs to be found. The necklace belonged to an importan historical figure. In trying to get the necklace they learn about the person who owned it how he made it and why. Don't say you have to finish your home work before you can play.

I would make the quest you are trying to help one of your teachers. It is an extra credit assignment. You must find the necklace. There are a number of people who can give you information on said necklace if you help them. One boy wants you to find a rare flower in a historically imporant garden. One girl wants you to discover why all the birds left her meadow and the answer has to do with the world's history. Once you know all of the important details you can get the necklace pass the class and get into the guild.

The quiz is part of the introductory scenario, which is optional. I invite you to read the campaign "On the Artifact Trail" which is exactly what you describe ;)
